VALUTA X BOOTICELLI VX MONTAGE
Valuta is a Dutch brand with deep roots in skating. The name Valuta means currency and their video piece together with the Booticelli boys is definitely good money!
Carhartt WIP x Pop Trading Company – “Nihilist”
If you know about POP you know how close to home this one hits. Also, a Carhartt collab is always a great opportunity to work with great people.
Also every time Sami El Hassani gets behind the lens we love the results.

Pop Trading Co. – Vondel ’18
On Saturday, September 15th, 2018, Pop Trading Company joined forces with Vans to host the first edition of Vondel ‘18. An invitational skateboard contest in the middle of Amsterdam’s Vondelpark. The concept of this event is referring back to simpler times, where phones were not our first priority. You could find basic obstacles reminiscing of San Francisco’s Back to the City contest or closer to home the 3rd Floor Skatepark in Pakhuis Amerika back in the mid to late 90’s.
Next to an impressive line up of some of the best skateboarders in the world and a very interesting location, unique to this event was the lack of media. All skateboarders were documented by one crew using Hi-8 camera’s as it would happen in the early days, pre-internet, where you would have to wait for the latest 411 Video Magazine or Transworld Skateboarding to see who had won a skateboard competition.
With checkpoints at both entrances the crowd had to go back in time with us as phone cameras were stickered, Berghain style, where the court was treated like a movie set, nobody films or shoots photos apart from the invited media.
The contest footage is released on VHS tape, which you can find now at a few select local dealers.

FUNBOX – A Place Full-Lenght
It has been a while since a Skateboard Magazine from Europe released a full-length video project with the magazine at once. Our issue 61 comes with a 19-minute film, all filmed with a VX and Hi8. In times of Instagram and extremely fast ways of having your footage being released, we as a team got together and worked on this video for about four weeks. Thaynan Costa, Hugo Maillard and Willem van Dijk came for a visit and every one of these guys killed it.
A big thank you to everyone involved, besides the lineup above this video features: Tjark Thielker, Timo Meiselbach, Nils Brauer, Jan Hoffmann, Paul Röhrs, Giorgi Armani, NSVC, Alex O’Donahoe, Peter Buikema, Deniz Bulgurcu, Daniel Pannemann, Roland Hoogwater, Valentin Cafuk, Alex Raeymaekers, Mats Edel, Jonas Heß & Danny Sommerfeld.

Skate48 – Team Cabrio & Boombap
Skate48 is a pretty cool concept hailing from The Netherlands. The idea behind the contest is that different teams spend 48 hours in one city and come up with a video. The best overall edit wins the main prize and like the Oscars, there are other categories like best editing, best filming etc.
We selected the two stand out videos. Boombap who won the prize for best editing and best filmer and Team Cabrio who did not only win the best video prize but also best trick by Billy Hoogendijk and had the best overall skater place alumni Glenn Fox.
A special shout out to Willem van Dijk who is one of the main guys in our current issue and who coined the saying “Life is a Manny Pad”.

Already well-known in Europe it was only a question of time until our Dutch friends from Pop Trading Company get their deserved attention also from the other side of the big pond. Their Thrasher debute could be described as sort of a best of compilation from their clips of the past year, which is still kept black in white but this time they spiced it with some hot tunes!
