Tag: Hyun Kummer

This clip shows Kummer brothers and their crew don’t land everything first try, sometimes they might not land it at all but, they don’t half-step! Giorgi might be the closest thing Europe has to Sammy Baca, from 27 times to 2000 tries the dedication is real and the respect is earned!

Respect is often earned not given and even when it is due people feel like taking the easy route and put the focus on what they don’t like instead of what is achieved.

FLYTECC is a new company started by two brothers Jun & Hyun Kummer. Two skateboarders that you might know only by their Instagram handles @seoul_air & Versace_plug. For them, FLYTECC is a platform a creative outlet and this video is a big step into defining what their 2020 vision is.

Now there are 2 kinds of people, employees and employers both deserve respect but the difference is that the second group consists of people that are willing to take a risk, the risk to start something new.

We don’t feel like we need to explain the importance of family but it is important to show respect to two people who have taken a risk, are putting their vision out there and in this video even put their bodies on the line to show you something they felt needed to be seen.

A family-owned business is something we support and whatever you feel about the people involved or the level of creativity displayed it demands respect!

Lastly, we say all that but would like to add that Hyun wrote on IG that he filmed his best trick to this day for this project and after his last part that alone should be enough to make you press play.

Featuring:

Hyun Kummer, Jun Kummer, Jonte Klahr, Ike Fromm, Max Obert, Eric Erhardt, and London Lee.

This video was filmed by:

Leon Rudolph, Jun Kummer & Peter Buikema.

What do you get when you put our favorite host Lea Isabell together with a very special shoe, THE SHANE? What does the shoe look like, what does it feel like, How does it smell? And do humans actually have a different opinion about footwear than animals do?

Denny Pham was blown away by Shane’s new shoe!

Besides that, we get Hyun Kummer, Denny Pham, Sascha Scharf and many others flying through the air onto our little L.A. safe-haven called 7th Street. What do the winners feel after they land their tricks? Well, watch Lea & Louis ask those hard-hitting questions as well.

Hyun Kummer definitely pushed Mr. O’Neill’s shoe to the limit by blasting from the kicker to the bench multiple times.
Another Shane wearing “THE SHANE”.

Last but certainly not least, did you watch Shane’s new part yet? You might have it has only been all over the interwebs but what did the people who got to watch it first, the people who got to go to the world premiere think of the king of the “flip in flip out” newest part?

The Butcher got himself a prime spot for the world premiere of ‘The Extra Bit”
The crowd seemed to love it as well.

What do they say at the end of most movies again? Oh yeah, “FIN”!

Last Saturday something happened, a group of people honored us with their presence, their good spirits & their bowling skills. Today we recap the magic of that night for you.

At the start of the night, there was some confusion about how to bowl.
Love the ball and it will reward you!

What happened? Well, we had one of our best events ever, from a slow start, where basically everyone turned up on time, which was a bit early (not expected at a skate event) to an electric final we have you, the Berlin skate scene to thank for making this what it was!

Some people were not aware of the strengths they possessed.
Valle Cafuk showing some of that skateboard attitude on the lanes.
He managed to reel it in though.
We also had a best strike competition, this was not it though.
The great Mark Nickels in full swing during the finals.

What it was? Well, a night of surprises. For instance, a very drunk Jack Taylor together with a driven Dan Clarke making it all the way to the finals. An amazing performance from Collin McLean who bowls with as much finesse as he skates. Mark Nickels who brought his own bowling ball and wore a bowling shirt (scare tactics) and bowled steadily for the entire night, in the end, coming up short because Berlin local and adidas skater Baswti kept racking them up and knocking them down like he had ice in his veins.

Jack Taylor one half of the aptly named team Jack Daniels.
1up or 10 down? Bowling is full of surprises.
Love is in the air when Paul Röhrs enters the room.

When we shot the trailer he wasn’t bowling like this we tell you! He did use his patented own was of throwing the ball but it seemed like in the 3-weeks between the shoot for the trailer and the actual event he had put in the work and at the end up the night took home the 300€ prize money. Congratulations Bawsti you earned it!

Sitting down, Bänke Life!
Steffen Grap, Grap means joke in Dutch but we don’t think Steffen felt this was funny.
Ruhe means to rest in German but Julian Ruhe means business on the bowling lanes.

adidas Skateboarding thank you for helping us and making this happen, it was a magic evening for all in attendance, skater, and non-skater together knocking down those pins together.

Like Ronaldo or Messi on the field, Bawsti shuts the haters up and takes home the prize!
We can’t all win but at least you had the outfit of the night.

During the second edition of SKTWK we had the honor of hosting a very special contest as part of the whole event. Now you might want to know what kind of games we chose to play and the answer is BINGO! a geriatric favorite must likely currently being played in a nursing home near you!

There where multiple prizes, things like a professional full body massage, trinkets but the most valuable prize was by far the honor to shoot a Place Magazine – Snapshot Recap! That prize and in turn duty fell on the shoulders of Simon Klinkertz.

Simon turned out to have a capable eye and some strong shoulders that allowed him to get the job done in style! So, here it is our very special SKTWK Recap.

Simon would like you to know:

A very big thank you to SKTWK, Place Magazine and all the people that attended the event in Düsseldorf.

June the 21st has many names “Midsummer Night”, the longest day of the year or “Go Skateboarding day 2019”.

This year Berlin was the city, MBU the location and Vans & Radio skateboards the supporting brands but most importantly Valentin Cafuk was the MVP!

Valle told us the day before, “Either I am going home with a lot of cash or I am going home hurt but either way, I am putting it on the line!” and he did just that. The next day though, he spent it all on art supplies…

So now since GSD is over and the sun on the longest day has set. It is all downhill from here but at least we can relive the moment with this video!

We would like to thank both Vans & Radio Skateboards for their support and we will see you all next year. Let’s hope that these obstacles will stay at MBU until then!

Design is often based on other design, how many Ferrari shaped bedsheets or My Little Pony shaped birthday cakes have we not seen in our life?

So when Nike remastered the Janoski for its 10-year anniversary they also looked outside, they probably looked at animals, the sky, cement patterns, but in the end, I believe they simply looked out of their Beaverton office window onto the parking lot and there they found the answer sitting in the swooshes own parking lot.

(disclaimer: this might not be factual, they might have just found pictures of the car on the internet)

The Volkswagen Polo “Harlekin’s” story connects to the Janoski in multiple ways. It was in 1994 that the German company wanted to draw attention to their newly-updated Polo model but the problem they had to solve was:

“How do we get people to look at the newness?”.

The answer came in all colors! They devised a special showroom model of the new 6N, this model would breathe NEW! But this model was only meant to show off in the showroom it wasn’t available to the public… Well a couple of the showroom models actually did get sold afterwards and those cars began to create “word of mouth” on the streets and when the streets are talking the people at VW were listening.

1995 swings around and featured in the catalog is the now legendary VW 6N Harlekin as demanded by the public and in 2019 a similar story can be told about Nike SB’s Janoski shoe. Like the Polo, it looks similar but it is not quite the same, from little leather linings to the tape on the sole, everything has been tweaked for ’19 and that is where the two stories meet.

Fast forward to the 10th of May, Denny Pham, Jan Henrik Kongstein, Peter Buikema, Leo Preisinger and myself find ourselves driving around Berlin in a VW Harlekin wearing the Janoski Harlekin, we are putting both through the wringer for the next 2,5 days.

We didn’t do that alone, of course, we invited some Nike riders and Berlin locals to test it with us along the way.

To be honest the car has had a bit more mileage than the shoe but both held up quite well during our time even though Leo had his doubts about the car.

After the 2.5 days we concluded a couple of things:

  1. Denny Pham skates like he is playing THPS.
  2. The “new” Janoski looks better than the “old” Janoski (look closely).
  3. Jan Kliewer can shove his board like it is 1991.
  4. Jan Henrik like all people in Norway is hella tech.
  5. Michael Mackrodt drives a car the same way he skates.

Thank you for the support Skatedeluxe and Nike SB <3

At the end of last week, Tom Weimar contacted us by simply sending us a link to his newest video, something that happens from time to time and is always appreciated. We wrote back telling him that we would check it out tomorrow and he wrote back “😻”.

From the first time we worked with Tom – launching one of his previous projects “ANTR’S MIX” – we knew we were in for a ride. After watching about a minute I wrote him back asking for some more information, you can read his response below:

Intro by Roland Hoogwater.
Text, video and images by Tom Weimar.

When you asked me why I made this video, at first I didn’t really know what to say. Putting out VX1000 style montages every once in a while has kind of become a routine. I do it primarily because I need to go skateboarding to relieve stress and when I go skate – at least during the summer months – I have my VX with me to film the sessions.

This year, around mid-summer, I had a couple of things filmed and a couple of my friends started to get ambitious, thinking about the footage they had and actively trying to get more. Because of them, I started to think about the editing process, selecting music and building a concept.

To be honest, I generally spend more time checking out music online than watching skate videos… Searching for Hip Hop, R&B, Funk, Soul, Experimental etc. is what I spend a lot of time on.

What links this video, “DORI’S DANCE”, to one of my previous ones, “ANTR’S MIX”, is that I wanted to edit the complete montage to the music of one DJ or producer, one whose music I value.

For this project I asked AVBVRN if he would be okay with sending me some of his tracks/bootlegs that could be matched to skate footage. And he did, he sent me some “weirdo” stuff. 🙂

To conclude, not only did I want to include all the skaters that I skate with but also my friend Dori. She is a multi-talent that can both act and dance. Making her part of the video felt natural to me. So, here is “DORI’S DANCE”, enjoy!

During the premiere of Leon Rudolph’s new video, somebody asked: “Why is this video called Practice?” The answer lies in the opening shot of this video.

Pressed play, still no clue? You probably don’t watch the NBA, Leon does, he got the inspiration for his newest video from a Basketball legend Allen “A.I.” Iverson.

Iverson was at the peak of his skills and got asked about his performance during practice and his response is simply legendary.

Press play and listen to Iverson’s wisdom and watch Leon’s newest video featuring People like:

Jun Kummer, Hyun Kummer, Cephas Benson, Benny Urban, Santiago Sasson, David Jakinda, Farid Ulrich, Peter Buikema, Moritz Alte and many more.

Los Angeles is a town based on movie and television money, Hollywood is right there, it says so on the sign! So for us to present you with still photography only, would be a wasted opportunity. So we packed our cameras and filmed our own little video and here it is.

Featuring:
Kai Hillebrand, Hyun “Versace_plug” Kummer, Michal Juraś, Kuba Brniak, Jonte Klahr and David Jakinda skating in and around LA LA Land.

Last Saturday marked the start of a new series of skateboard events throughout Europe, the Snipes Squad Up competition kicked off in Berlin.

From all over Germany, they came, groups of skaters ready to compete for the 10.000 prize purse. And to everybody’s excitement, it wasn’t just your usual suspects, Crews like Seoul2k and Europe Co. competed as well. Together with the locals from Märkisches Viertel Snipes managed to create an eclectic atmosphere that made for a good day of skating.

Check out the images and catch the vibe.

It is hard to understate how involved we were in the making of this video, all our staff has tricks except Danny Sommerfeld who was hurt. Some of this video was even filmed on Place trips, a lot was documented on other trips but all of it was shot during Leon Rudolph’s holiday.

The end reslut makes you wonder what he could do if he filmed full time.

https://youtu.be/Qih-HO9Kr98

Three days, that is all it took to film this video, two days it took them to edit it and today it’s out for us to see.

The people over at Seoul2k don’t like to let things sit on the shelf for too long, whether it’s tricks or product they are all about keeping it moving.

Featuring:

Julian Ruhe, Jun Kummer (@seoul_air) and Hyun Kummer (@versace_plug).

Last week the boys came to Berlin and hooked up with their friends over in our fair city to film this promo, we came with on a couple missions to see what was up, skate with them and chill out.

The edit makes it all look fun but the boys were serious about going all in and try a trick for a couple of hours which we felt was unexpected in the Instagram era. Also, we want to shout out Hyun Kummer aka Versace_Germany for finding a “normal” ollie trick that had not been done down the Kulturforum double set and doing that kickflip back smith line first try!

Enough said, watch the video!

I clearly remember when this project started, I was talking to Leon Rudolph and I asked: “Why don’t you do full-length videos anymore?” He answered: “Right now, I just don’t want to wait to put something out.” Leon did do a lot this year, he did some stuff for Converse Cons, Cleptomanicx and a couple of independent short videos. So an idea crept into our mind, what if we ask Leon to remix his 2016 work into one longer project? He loved the idea, and from that moment we started to talk regularly about the project, Leon would bring up ideas and started working on the project, he even found a date and a location to premiere the project. Yesterday the video had its premiere in Kassel it premiered together with Jonathon the Dog’s new project. So with, that out the way we are proud to introduce to you Leon Rudolph’s newest project “U Already Know” for PLACE, Enjoy!

Featuring: Danny Sommerfeld, Jonas Hess, Jan Hoffmann, Daniel Pannemann, Hyun Kummer (Versace_Germany), Jun Kummer (Seoul_air), Steffen Grap, Franz Grimm, Max Sand, Moritz Alte and much more.

The colder days are just around the corner in Northern Europe, and thus, the same applies to Berlin. So shortly before we are switching our clocks to daylight saving time, Nike SB, in wise foresight, called together their Europe team to have a last session at Project DSS.

Featuring Hugo Boserup, Casper Brooker, David Jakinda, Jacopo Carozzi, Julia Brückler, Joscha Aicher, Hyun Kummer, Farid Ulrich, Sami Harithi, Justin Sommer, Giorgi Balkhamishvili and Jan Kliewer.
